Pastry Chef

Our Pastry Chef is devoted to ensuring proper presentation of our pastries, cleanliness along with providing a smile and assistance to customers who visit the Bakery department

We are looking for a creative Pastry Chef to be responsible for crafting delicious desserts and confectionery, designing seasonal items, and developing new recipes for the pastry section of our Market. You should be passionate about baking and be inspired to create masterpieces that go beyond our customers’ expectations.

To be successful in this role you must be well-versed in the culinary arts and adhere to strict standards of hygiene and cleanliness.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to lift 40 lbs consistently
  • Long periods of standing and walking
  • Frequent bending and twisting
  • Occasionally pushing and pulling of heavy carts around bakery
  • High school diploma.
  • Post-secondary training at a culinary institution.
  • Certificate in culinary arts, pastry-making, baking, or relevant field.
  • 2 or more years’ experience working within the food industry as a Pastry Chef, Baker, or relevant role.
  • Working knowledge of baking techniques and the pastry-making process.
  • Creative ability with artistic skill in decorating cakes and other desserts.
  • Keen attention to detail.
  • In-depth knowledge of sanitation principles, food preparation, and nutrition.
  • Flexible working hours, including weekends and evenings and holidays when necessary.
  • Capable of working in a fast-paced, production environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Operating and managing the pastry section of the kitchen and liaising with the Executive and Sous Chefs to ensure a successful working environment.
  • Preparing ingredients and handling baking and other kitchen equipment.
  • Creating pastries, baked goods, and confections, by following a set recipe.
  • Developing new recipes for seasonal menus.
  • Decorating pastries and desserts to ensure beautiful and tasteful presentation.
  • Meeting with customers to discuss details and planning of custom-made desserts and pastries for special occasions, such as weddings.
  • Monitoring the stock of baking ingredients.
  • Ordering new supplies, ingredients, and equipment for the pastry section, when needed, and within budget.
  • Ensuring their section of the Market adheres to safety and health regulations.
  • Supervising and training staff members, when needed.
  • Check quality of material and condition of equipment and devices used for cookin
  • Guide and motivate pastry assistants and bakers to work more efficiently
  • Identify staffing needs and help recruit and train personnel

Barista

The Barista plays a key role in our energetic team of food and beverage enthusiasts who are driven to provide excellent customer service. You’ll have the opportunity to be part of a fun atmosphere where both customers and employees have a great experience that’s welcoming and engaging.

Duties

A Barista’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Make and serve specialty coffee/espresso and tea
  • Speak and interact with both new and regular customers
  • Maintain a clean and sanitized work station
  • Follow health and safety guidelines
  • Adhere to recipes and presentations for food and beverage items
  • Contribute to a positive team environment
  • Providing premier customer service
  • Accepting payment and providing change when appropriate
  • Handling cash and other tenders accurately

  • Clean service or seating area

Qualifications

Work Conditions

A Barista’s duties are performed primarily in the Café.  Work includes walking, standing for prolonged periods, and making specialty drinks. Duties also include frequent interaction with customers and associates.

Warehouse / Receiving Clerk

Our Receiving Clerk must receive, inspect and record shipments with raw material or products. You will be responsible for unloading packages and checking their contents to ensure they match the orders. A receiving clerk must have a great eye for detail and basic math skills. They must also have adequate physical strength to unload shipments as well as the clerical skills to update records. The goal is to ensure we receive the correct packages and stock them appropriately.

Duties

  • Collaborate with procurement staff to list expected deliveries
  • Receive shipments and sign paperwork upon receipt
  • Unload packages from incoming delivery trucks
  • Inspect contents to ensure they are undamaged
  • Verify packages according to order and invoices (quantity, quality, etc.)
  • Contact supplier or shipper if a mistake is identified
  • Assume responsibility for returning unsatisfactory shipments or receiving replacements
  • Label deliveries and allocate them to their designated place
  • Ensure invoices and B.O.L are signed off for satisfactory deliveries
  • Maintain accurate records and assist in inventory control

Work includes standing, lifting, pulling for prolonged periods, repetitive arm and hand movements, working in walk in coolers and freezers and moving and lifting products, along with continuous interaction with customers, truck drivers and associates.

Cashier Clerk

A cashier plays a key role in our energetic team, you are the last line of defense and must be driven to provide excellent customer service. You’ll have the opportunity to be part of a fun atmosphere where both customers and employees have a great experience that’s welcoming and engaging.

Duties

A Cashier's responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Providing premier customer service, including greeting them and responding to questions
  • Weighing and scanning products
  • Accepting payment and providing change, when appropriate
  • Handling cash and other tenders accurately
  • Bagging products, when necessary
  • Maintaining a neat and clean register area
  • Assisting in other duties, as assigned
  • Counting the float at the beginning and at the end of your shift

Qualifications

Pastry Attendant

Our Pastry Attendants are devoted to ensuring proper presentation of our pastries, cleanliness along with providing a smile and assistance to customers who visit the Bakery department.

DUTIES

Education:
  • High School or GED from an accredited school system or program is preferred.

  • Ability to work under pressure, while maintaining a professional image at all times

Working conditions:

Job requires employee to work a variety of shifts including mornings, days, evenings, weekends and holidays. Employees will be exposed to cold temperatures when accessing our refrigerated areas. Job also requires employee to work with challenging customers and/or situations.

Deli Clerk

Teamwork is the key to success in our Deli, where our associates work together to take orders accurately, prepare quickly, and serve customers with a smile. Deli Clerks are devoted to providing the best customer service and the highest product quality possible. Without them, our store wouldn't be able to provide freshly prepared sandwiches and salads to customers ready to eat a meal. Deli Clerks also help customers with their catering needs.

DUTIES

A Deli Clerk's responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Grocery Clerk

Italian Bakery’s Mercato LTD is devoted to ensuring proper presentation of products in an assigned section and for providing a smile and assistance to customers who visit our market.

DUTIES

A Grocery Clerk’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Providing premier customer service, including greeting them and responding to questions
  • Ensuring product is rotated, within date, and properly displayed on shelves according to the appropriate planogram
  • Unloading product from pallets and organizing stock room
  • Filling assigned sections as needed
  • Assisting Grocery Replenishment Specialist in maintenance of shelf set
  • Cleaning cases and shelves, mopping and sweeping the sales floor, stock room and coolers
  • Operating back room equipment, pallet jack, pallet stacker, compactor and scrub machine
  • Assisting in other duties, as assigned
  • Working in a safe and organized manor
  • Able to work evenings, weekends and holidays
  • Able to lift 40lbs

Our Produce Clerks are devoted to ensuring proper presentation of our produce, cleanliness along with providing a smile and assistance to customers who visit the Produce department.

DUTIES

A Produce Clerk’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Providing premier customer service, including greeting them and responding to questions
  • Filling and rotating produce cases and dry tables
  • Unloading product from trucks
  • Dynamically selling product by providing customers with information needed to make product-related decisions
  • Breaking down pallets, separating produce for sales floor, cooler and/or back room prep area
  • Processing and/or wrapping produce items prior to filling cases and dry tables
  • Verifying ads, hanging current sale signs, and removing out-of-date sale signs
  • Performing routine price changes on products
  • Processing “Value Added Items” for Produce Specialty section
  • Operating pallet jack, compactor and scrub machine
  • Assisting in other duties, as assigned
  • Able to work evenings, weekends and holidays
